Alice A. Neal

Alice earned her B.A. at Bates College and lived and worked in Portland for several years after finishing her undergraduate degree. She then went on to attend New York Law School, obtaining her J.D. She moved back to Maine at the end of law school so that she could begin her career in Portland and was subsequently admitted to the Maine Bar and the bar for the Federal District of Maine. She is a Maine-rostered Guardian ad Litem for both family law and child protective cases. Alice is a member of the Maine Bar Association, sings with, and is on the Board of, Women in Harmony, and also serves on the board of Southern Maine GLESN. She is an advisor to PRYSM (Proud Rainbow Youth of Southern Maine). She enjoys curling up with good books, spending evenings in the kitchen cooking, walking and exploring Portland and Maine, playing fetch with her cats, and good conversation with friends and family.

Zachary M. Paakkonen

Zachary grew up in Bucksport, Maine, and moved to Portland to attend the University of Southern Maine, graduating magna cum laude and with General University Honors. He has lived in Portland ever since. He received his J.D. from Cornell Law School in Ithaca, New York. Zachary is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts in Maine, and is also an approved and rostered Guardian ad Litem. He is a member of the Maine Guardian ad Litem Institute, the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and also serves as a member of the Portland Police Citizen Review Subcommittee. He serves on the board of the Rainbow Business Professional Association (RBPA) and Southern Maine GLSEN. Zack is the current editor of the Family Affairs Newsletter, a statewide social events e-mail newsletter for the LGBTQI community. He enjoys following the Boston Red Sox and the Portland Seadogs, and researching and writing about Maine history.

Zack and Alice are both members of the National LGBT Bar Association and its associated Family Law Institute and Transgender Law Institute. Their law firm is a member of the Rainbow Business Professional Association (RBPA), and also the DownEast Pride Alliance (DEPA), and Portland Buy Local. Both Alice and Zack have presented at conferences for the LGBTQIA community on legal topics.
